Swiss-born Marie-Claude Chappuis, studied voice with Prof. Westendorp in Freiburg (Switzerland) and at the Mozarteum Salzburg.
For five years Marie-Claude Chappuis was a member of the Landestheater Innsbruck (director: Brigitte Fassbaender) where she could be heard in important roles of her repertory like Sesto in Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito, Carmen, Charlotte in Massenet's Werther, Armindo in Partenope, Hänsel in Hänsel and Gretel, Hippolyta in Britten's Midsummer night's dream. She was invited by René Jacobs to sing Messagiera and Prosperina in Monteverdi's Orfeo at the Festival für Alte Musik in Innsbruck as well as at the Berlin State Opera, sang Carmen at the Stadttheater Bern and Dorabella in Così fan tutte and Dido & Aeneas at the Stadttheater Lucerne. In addition to her operatic work, Marie-Claude Chappuis has worked, among others, with Philippe Herreweghe with Mozart's c-minor Mass in Lisbon and Porto and with Bach's St. Matthew Passion in Brussels, Antwerp, Gent and New York, with Wolfgang Gönnenwein in Elijah and Messiah and with Michel Corboz. She sang in Bach's b-minor, Mozart's c-minor Mass and The Christmas Oratorio in Zurich, Dream of Gerontio in Bern, Pulcinella with Jac van Steen in Winterthur, St. Matthew Passion in St. Pölten and with John Nelson in Paris. René Jacobs invited her to sing in Telemann's Brockes Passion on tour. She also gives Lied-recitals together with Breda Zakotnik. Future engagements include: Annio in Clemenza di Tito with René Jacobs, concerts plus recording for harmonia mundi, Monteverdi Triology (Ottavia, Penelope, Esperanza) with the ensemble Il Giardino Armonico in Geneva, concerts (Purcell and Charpentier) with William Christie on tour and a recording, Mozart's Davidde penitente in Winterthur, Sesto in Clemenza di Tito at the Festival Baden-Baden and in Luxembourg, concert with Giovanni Antonini in Frankfurt and on tour in Italy, concert with Concerto Köln in Ansbach, Annio in Clemenza di Tito and Anna in Les Troyens at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva, L'enfance du Christ with John Nelson in Paris, Orfeo (Esperanza), Poppea (Ottavia) and Madrigals by Monteverdi with René Jacobs in Berlin, Christmas Oratorio by Bach with Peter Schreier in Zurich, L'étoile by Charbrier with John Elliott Gardiner in Zurich. www.chappuis-mezzo.ch |
